Hardware-Based Security: Key Drivers

Download hardware drivers for HydroComp product security keys.

About Your Security Key

When you purchased your software license, you bought much more than the actual goods themselves (such as the CD, documents, and security key). You actually bought the right to use the intellectual property that makes up the software code. Put another way, you bought access to the software. The security key gives you that access.

Your SuperPro security key (also known as a “dongle” or “hardware lock”) is a special USB hardware device manufactured by SafeNet, Inc. (under the “Sentinel” or “Rainbow” brand) that communicates with the computer that you want to run the software. In this way it is similar to a printer, scanner, or other attached device – and like these devices, it needs “device drivers” to be installed.

Permissions and ‘Run as Administrator’

Installing the security key driver service requires an elevated level of permissions on Windows 7/8/10. To install the drivers, right-click the installation and select the ‘Run as administrator’ option.

Note: If you do not have the ‘Run as administrator’ option, please contact your company’s IT Administrator to give you access to this or have them perform the procedure for you.

Security Key Driver Installation [for all computers running HydroComp software]

    • Step 1. DO NOT attach the security key before installing the drivers
If any keys are attached, unplug them and reboot your computer.
    • Step 2. Download and install the drivers [supports both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows]
      Download the compressed ZIP file.
Extract the installation file from the ZIP file.
Right-click and select the ‘Run as Administrator’ option to run the driver installation.
BE SURE TO: use a Custom installation and ensure the “Parallel Driver” is ON. (Needed by the License Viewer.)

    • Step 3. Plug in your security key
Your computer should recognize this newly attached hardware and pop up a message indicating that it found a “SafeNet USB SuperPro/UltraPro”. (Do not worry just yet if you do not get this message. Your computer may already have recognized this device and would not pop up the message.)
    • Step 4. Download and install the HydroComp License Viewer
Download the License Viewer from the License Viewer page.
Run the License Viewer from the Windows start link at:
Start > [All] Programs > HydroComp License Utilities > License Viewer
The License Viewer should find and display your license in the large white panel. If you do not see the license, follow the Troubleshooting instructions on the License Viewer page.
    • Step 5. Test your HydroComp software (not for Workgroup licenses)
Launch your licensed application. It should now find the key and license. Once fully launched, you can check your license status from the Help menu (e.g., Review License…). If your software does not run properly, please refer to the Troubleshooting section below

    Troubleshooting

We do not expect that you will have any difficulty with your driver installation if you have followed the steps above. However, in rare instances, it is possible that the hardware is not correctly recognized. This may be due to a previously installed set of drivers that are obsolete, or even a bad USB port. Below you will find a set of tools to help you troubleshoot driver setup problems. Of course, if you do not have success with these tools, please contact HydroComp for assistance (email:
    support@hydrocompinc.com)

    End User Troubleshooting Guide
You can review the End User Troubleshooting Guide from SafeNet. This is an in-depth guide to the drivers and keys.

    SafeNet Advance Medic
Download, unzip, and run this utility to help determine if the security key and drivers are correctly installed and running. It also creates a log file that can be used for further diagnosis.

    SafeNet Driver Cleanup
Download, unzip, and run this utility to remove all previous driver installations from your computer. (After using this utility, re-install the drivers above.) Its purpose is to help resolve situations where you cannot install a new version of the driver or un-install an older version. Use the utility specific to your version of Windows.
