At HydroComp, we use our web site for a variety of purposes. Two of these purposes - program updates and our blog - have pages and content that change frequently. We use an automatic "web feed" function, called RSS, to notify our software customers and visitors of newly available program updates or changes to these pages.
RSS is an acronym for Really Simple
Syndication, and it is nothing more than a tiny web page in XML format that
is checked every time your browser goes online. The information in this file is
typically saved as a "Favorite" or "Bookmark" page. A page
that has RSS feed will have a small RSS button
,
or a "transmission" icon
.
To receive RSS feed information, you need to subscribe to the RSS feed. Currently we have two feeds - Product Updates and Blogs Updates. Subscribing is different in various browsers. Examples for Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7 are shown below.
Subscribing using Firefox 2
- Go to your program Updates page or the Blog page.
- Click either a) the transmission icon
in the address bar, or b) the RSS button
on the page.
- The particular RSS feed information should be shown, and you can follow the instructions to subscribe to the RSS feed - called a Live Bookmark in Firefox.
- Put the new Live Bookmark listing in the Bookmarks Toolbar Folder or as part of the regular Bookmark menu.
You can subscribe to both right now, by clicking the buttons or links below.
Subscribing using Internet Explorer 7
- Go to your program Updates page or the Blog page.
- Click either a) the transmission icon
in the toolbar, or b) the RSS button
on the page.
- The particular RSS feed information should be shown, and you can follow the instructions to subscribe to the RSS feed - called Feed in Internet Explorer 7.
- You can see your subscribed feeds using the Favorites button on the toolbar.
You can subscribe to both right now, by clicking the buttons or links below.
