Professional CAD/CAM design for marine propellers.

 Rev: January 11, 2012

PropCad is software for the geometric modeling of marine propellers. It provides tools for the automatic preparation of 2D design drawings, 3D views, construction data, calculation of geometric properties, and CAD/CAM file export.

 Features
  • Integrated geometric designer
  • Traditional 2D design drawings
  • Multiple 3D views and graphics
  • Design wizards for rapid development
  • Build from scanned blade data
  • Supports any custom geometry
  • Classification thickness calculations
  • Weight and inertial properties
  • Construction data output
  • CAD/CAM file export

 Applications

  • New product development
  • Creation of derivative designs
  • Production or custom
  • Modeler for FEA or CFD
  • Analysis of existing geometry
  • Open or ducted styles
  • Ocean-going marine propellers
  • High-skew performance propellers
  • Model boat propellers
  • Aircraft props, jet impellers and fans

 In development for 2012

  • New geometry definition options
  • Offsets registered to the baseline or camber line
  • Manipulation of the baseline for "face" definitions
  • New radial distribution parameters (camber, skew in degrees)
  • Additional import/export options
  • Updates to CAD/CAM export files - Updated macro and data file formats in support for new versions of many popular CAD/CAM programs.
  • Direct IGES export - A new lofted blade surface feature that provides a direct export in IGES format.
  • New data exchange options - Additional data exchange with propeller hydrodynamic codes, including HydroComp's new PropElements detail design software.
 Recently added features

  • LR Ice Class rules
  • "Cantilevered" thickness distribution
  • PDF report for the 3D View - The 3D View can now be exported as a JPEG image file or packaged as a PDF report page.
  • Latest class society thickness calculations - The thickness calculations have been updated per ABS 2011 and LR 2010 publications, including high skew propellers.
  • Updated CAD View - A new replacement for the 2D CAD functionality has been developed and implemented. This builds upon the newest version of the report viewer which now includes CAD-type line drawing features.
  • Better shape control for highly cambered sections - Improves hydrodynamic nose shape for foil geometries with high camber.
  • Improved main page data interface - The main page has an updated data entry format.
  • New report viewer - A new integrated report viewer provides enhanced reporting options, including export to PDF, CSV, and RTF.
  • Conic flow geometry - Design propellers to a conic flow orientation as well as circular flow.
  • New section geometries - Includes a mathematically fair Modified Kaplan section (with thicker edges).
  • CAD/CAM exports  - Now includes Pro/E blend file, Rhino 4, Solidworks 2005+ and Unigraphics NX.
  • New section fitting - New capabilities to insert and smooth sections.
  • Inspection report - Check measured face pitch values to design values. This is the first of a planned collection of inspection reports.
  • Supplemental calculations - New calculations, including a new wetted added mass calculation and an improved wetted inertia calculation.
  • New section format - Now define section data in thickness-camber format (in addition to the standard X-Y format).
  • Builder options - Additional high-performance blade section geometries.
  • Section design - New features for greater control over section geometry.
  • Effective pitch - Calculation and display of hydrodynamic effective pitch for variable pitch designs.
