It's Trade Show Season
Again
Miscellaneous Musings from the Technical Director

Stephanie McArdle - Marketing Manager
It's trade show season again and with it comes the
many opportunities to meet with clients, colleagues and new prospects.
There is also that certain feeling associated with red-eye flights,
missed connections, preparing for being out of the office, and a very
crammed trade show schedule. It's a frenetic life from early October to
mid-December.
I'm sure you have seen the HydroComp team at one trade show or another.
Whether we're trolling the exhibition floors, visiting booths or meeting
with the media, we make it a point to gain as much exposure as possible
during each event. Trade shows provide a tremendous opportunity for us
to meet with our new clients, reacquaint ourselves with old customers,
see what's new in the industry, join round table discussions, and
present technical papers.
There is nothing that can replace the human contact that a trade show
provides, which is why I would like to ask you, faithful reader, why the
trade show organizers do not collaborate when establishing the dates of
their trade shows? Is it ego, pride or simply ignoring the reality that
exists outside of their little milieu? The members of the marine
community are often forced to pick and choose which trade show they will
attend and which ones they have to forgo. Staffing issues and budgets
are always a concern. Surely the marine community would benefit from
increased communication between the event organizers. After all, every
organizer wants to improve their attendance figures.
In our experience, the dates for the Marine Technology /SNAME Expo, IBEX
and even METS are one week after another and more often than not,
overlap. This year, for example, the November trade show schedule is as
follows:
-
Europort, Rotterdam Netherlands 6 – 10
November
-
NMPA, 9 – 11 November
-
METS, Amsterdam 13 – 15 November
-
SNAME, Ft. Lauderdale FL 13 – 16 November
-
Pacific Marine Expo, Seattle WA 15 – 17
November
The shows listed above are all important to
HydroComp and it is a shame that we have to pick and choose. Please
remember, if you don't see us at the show of your choice this year
you'll probably see us there next fall - unless they overlap again!
