Miscellaneous Musings from the Technical Director

I just read that my alma mater, Webb Institute,
has adopted Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) as the platform
for their new computer programming curriculum. For those of you who
are not yet 100% indoctrinated in the Microsoft way of doing things,
VBA is a variant of their Visual Basic programming language that is
embedded into other applications. VBA is most often used from within
Excel for technical calculations, but it is also part of Word and
Access, for example, and has been licensed for use in many
non-Microsoft products. Three cheers to those responsible at Webb for
a good decision!...

particularly bothers me for a number of reasons, some of which I put
in a small report Hull Speed (pdf) that you can find on our web site.
However, the thread actually took an interesting turn into the
components of wave-making drag and CFD. The real gem in this
thread is one sentence, which I hope the author will not mind my
quoting here..

This
web log is edited by me, Stephanie McArdle. I am running HydroComp's
office in Ireland.
I am not an engineer, a naval
architect, nor a propeller designer - but I work with them every day.
So, perhaps with this web log I can tell you a little about what is
happening at HydroComp in a more casual format.
